CMA CGM announced the ending of its direct service from Asia to Port Tampa Bay after a year and five months of its creation in February 2019, stating customers will still be able to access the service through its Ocean Alliance partner COSCO Shipping.

Starting August 5, 2020, customers using this service will automatically be served by COSCO Shipping Line. This decision comes after the shipping giant announced that it would simplify its trans-pacific network, to best serve customers.

Port Tampa Bay’s executive vice president, Raul Alfonso, said in an interview “Port Tampa Bay understands that ocean carriers continue to deal with the ongoing impact of COVID-19 on the global economy. Rationalization of alliances services, rotation, and vessel capacity utilization are all ways to cope with such economies of scale.”

Another direct service from Asia calling the Port of Tampa Bay is operated by ZIM, MSC, and Maersk Line.
